Many of the enquiries that we have at The Wooden Boat Centre are from people who are interested in building a classic dinghy. The inevitable source of plans and information is the Iain Oughtred catalogue and boatbuilding manual with its range of sizes and styles of proven boats. An early leader in the provision of information allowing non-boat builders to create a classic boat, his research and drawings have been instrumental in creating a whole small boat movement.

Although we have seen numbers of Oughtred boats built at the Wooden Boat Centre non have turned out better than the Egret build by Tobi Pederson. Built strictly to the drawings, it has proved a very fine sailboat. Comfortably taking three adults, or two adults plus children it would live up to anyone's expectations for a quick, safe, stable boat either for cruising or just off-the-beach fun.
