Haven / Justin + Ninian Lewis
Herreshoff Boys Boat
Not really. It is, of course the Joel White interpretation of the that classic day sailer, the Haven 12 1/2. A much admired boat that many have considered but have been daunted by the complexity of the task. This version being built by Justin and Ninian Lewis has been adapted for strip-plank construction. This method produces a solid and shapely boat with minimum complexity. Built over molds in the usual fashion, it is stripped in Hoop Pine. The strips were glued with polyurethane glue and the whole structure is glassed inside and out. Next is the adventure of making a mold and having the 300 kg lead keel cast.
