Fulmar / Kevin and Kip Nicholas

To Suit Sailing Grounds Off Philip Island
The Fulmar is another Iain Oughtred classic open boat offering good sailing performance a carrying capacity. It is a large robust dinghy designed for coastal cruising and serious use. Chosen by Kevin and Kip Nicholas to suit their sailing grounds off Philip Island it will prove to be a popular family boat for many years.

Building such a boat is not a task to be undertaken lightly, however as there is much careful work to be done on such a boat. But the major work has been completed and now the fitting out remains. The pleasure of making the rudder and the mast and rig is a treat that they have now reached. Soon they will even be able to discuss what colour it should be.

A problem that can occur in a large project such as this is that distractions can arise. In this case grandchildren. From personal experience I know that with the arrival of grandchildren grandfathers have good intentions to do things for them, like build a small boat. Take my advice, start now because nothing slows the growth of children and they can grow out of the boat before it is finished.

Kevin and Kip have seen the need to complete another (smaller) boat for this reason. Consequently they have had us cut a small Welsford boat (Daniels Boat) with the intention of putting the Fulmar on hold temporarily while they construct a boat for small people at Christmas time.

Here are the cut sheet guys, what are we waiting for.
