Daniels Boat / Kevin and Kip Nicholas
A suitable subject for smaller sailors
Although committed to finishing their Fulmar Kevin & Kip have digressed. The advent of a grandchild has not change the focus but doubled the vision.
Excited by the acquisition of a CNC cut Daniels Boat, considered a suitable subject for smaller sailors, they have launched headlong into the new construction. It is, of course, a totally different project from the Fulmar. The Fulmar is a classic Iain Oughtred design, with classic lapstrake problems for the builder. The Welsford designed Daniels boat is a hybrid frame-with-skin crossed with stitch and glue. Quite a different proposition. But the possibility of making clear and obvious progress quickly after the continuous effort of the Fulmar has proved inspiring.

Setting up the Daniels boat on the bench next to their Fulmar gives a graphic contrast in both construction styles and progress. Which will be finished first? There is no doubt about that. With the many doublers glued into place and the bottom fixed down to the correct curve, it will be difficult for them not to concentrate on the smaller boat. Progress is so easy and so visually satisfying. The feddback from that progress is carrying over to the bigger boat to.
