Built from the
drawings by Nelson Zimmer, the “Hacker” is a faithful
re-creation of one of the classic John Hacker designs from
the early 1930’s. The characteristic hull lines of a Hacker
designed boat provide a level riding, clean running boat
that is easily driven and has predictable handling.
John Hacker is
widely recognized as the best of the designers working on
wooden race boats and gentleman’s runabouts in the period
1920-1940. With many spectacular boats and race wins to his
credit his work is still a benchmark among current-day boat
builders.
Following
traditional construction, this boat is built cold-molded
with two diagonal layers of 6mm okume plywood and an
external 6mm layer of Amoora. With sawn frames and closely
spaced full-length Oregon stringers, all epoxy soaked. This
produces a good looking, light, stiff boat with extended
life.
